Terms of Service
Last updated 8 September 2026
These terms govern your use of Tokd — the website at tokd.ai, the macOS app, and the browser extension. Using any of them means you accept what follows.
1. Your account
You need an account, and a confirmed email address, to use Tokd. You have 48 hours from signing up to confirm; after that the app pauses until you do. Keep your credentials to yourself — what happens under your account is your responsibility. Tell us at support@tokd.ai if you think someone else has got in.
You must be at least 13, and old enough to enter a contract where you live.
2. What Tokd does, and what it does not
Tokd reads text aloud and turns speech into text, using engines built by other companies. Those engines make mistakes. Transcripts and translations will contain errors, and generated speech will mispronounce things. Do not rely on Tokd's output where an error would matter — in medical, legal or financial contexts, or anywhere accuracy is critical — without checking it yourself.
3. Plans and payment
The free plan runs on API keys you supply. You pay those providers directly and are bound by their terms; what they charge is between you and them.
Paid plans are billed in advance and renew automatically until cancelled. Cancel any time and you keep access to the end of the period you have paid for. Prices can change with notice before your next renewal.
If a charge looks wrong, write to us. We would rather refund something arguable than argue about it.
4. Your content stays yours
Text you bring, audio you record, and speech Tokd generates for you remain yours. You grant us only the narrow licence needed to run the service — storing your queue, sending your text to the engine you chose, keeping the audio so you can play it again. Nothing more, and never to train a model.
You are responsible for having the right to use what you put in. Do not upload material you have no permission to, and do not clone a voice without the consent of the person it belongs to.
5. What you may not do
- Break the law, or use Tokd to infringe someone else's rights
- Impersonate a real person with a cloned voice, or generate speech intended to deceive
- Resell or redistribute Tokd's output as a competing service
- Probe, overload or work around the service's limits and protections
- Share an account, or automate it in ways that spoil it for others
We may suspend an account that does these things. Where it is reasonable to warn you first, we will.
6. Availability
Tokd is a small product under active development. It will occasionally be down, features will change, and the engines behind it can fail or be withdrawn by their owners. We do not promise a particular uptime.
7. Ending it
Close your account whenever you like. We may close or suspend yours for a serious or repeated breach of these terms, or if we have to stop operating — in which case we will give what notice we reasonably can and refund the unused part of anything prepaid.
8. The legal part
Tokd is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profits or data.
Nothing here removes rights you have that cannot be waived. Consumer protection law in your country may give you more than this section allows, and where it does, it wins.
9. Changes
We will post material changes in the app before they take effect. Carrying on using Tokd afterwards means you accept them; if you would rather not, close your account and we will refund the unused part of any prepayment.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada, and its courts have jurisdiction — without taking away any protection the law of your own country gives you.
